VMR Training LTD is a fully accredited CPCS Centre with our own training ground in Preston. We can arrange CPCS training courses and theory & practical tests for a number of courses detailed below. We can also arrange your Health, Safety and Environment test (CSCS) touch screen test for you. Below are the basic steps for progression on the CPCS scheme.
CPCS
CSCS HS&E TEST
Before any CPCS testing can take place, an operatives CSCS health, safety & environmental test is required. It must have been taken within the last 2 years. If you don’t have this, or are out of date, we can arrange this for you for only £22.50
CPCS RED – TRAINED OPERATOR CARD
This card is valid for 2 years. You have to complete a theory and practical test in your chosen plant category. When you book with us, we will send you all the guidance notes you will need to help you achieve your goal.
THEORY AND PRACTICAL TESTS EXPLAINED
Most theory tests are 1 hour long. This is a verbal recorded test. You have to pass this before you can undertake your practical test. Your practical test is for you to demonstrate that you can operate safely and competently within the allotted time frame. All the training we offer will equip candidates with every opportunity to achieve a successful outcome.
CPCS TRAINING
We offer CPCS training for all levels of experience, Novice, Semi-experienced or some refresher training.
CPCS BLUE – COMPETENT OPERATOR CARD
To obtain this card you need to undertake a level 2 nvq in the plant on your red card. In most cases, you will be eligible for a red card extension of one year while you undertake your nvq. The nvq involves site visits where observations and a professional discussion will be gathered. once achieved, your blue card is valid for 5 years.
RENEWAL TESTS
This is required just before your blue card expires and then every subsequent 5 years if it’s not been taken within the last 2 years. You may also require another CSCS health, safety & environmental test, which is mandatory before your renewal test. The renewal tests are 15 minutes long per category in the same format as your hs&e test. Please follow the link below for the renewal test study notes.

- Ride On Roller – 1 hour
- Wheeled Loading Shovel – 1.30
- Lorry Loader. Hook – Clamshell Bucket – Hydraulic Clamp – 1 hour 20 minutes
- Dozer 2 hours & 45 minutes (Off Site)
